Unlocking the Potential of Spent Grain: A Sustainable Approach

At Mitra S. K. Pvt. Ltd, we are continuously exploring innovative ways to utilize industrial by-products. Our recent study focused on the potential of spent grain, a by-product of the brewing industry, for oil extraction and as a nutritious feed for fish and animals.
Key Findings:

Oil Extraction: we extracted oil from spent grain, revealing its potential as a high-quality edible oil. The oil is rich in unsaturated fatty acids, which are considered beneficial for heart health. However, to improve its shelf life and prevent rancidity, the addition of antioxidants is recommended.
Nutritional Value of De-oiled Grain: The de-oiled material was found to be rich in protein, making it a valuable ingredient for animal feed. To enhance its suitability, we suggest reducing moisture content and increasing fiber content.

Implications: These findings open up new avenues for sustainable practices in both the food and feed industries. By transforming spent grain into valuable products, we can contribute to reducing waste and promoting a circular economy.
