MSK has added another Electronic Total Station in its fleet to strengthen its comprehensive stock pile and volume assessment activity for various commodities in Mines, Sidings, Ports, Plant & CFS.
Machine Used: Electronic Total Station (MSK uses SOKKIA 50 RX)

Working Principle of Stack Assessment – Volumetric Assessment Method
Step wise Procedure:
For any stack first the Datum Level is selected, which is the base level of the stack. This level is taken as the basic level and all the heights are taken based on this datum level. This datum level is maintained in the whole periphery of the stack. The complete length and breadth of the stack is then located.
The distance of the length and breadth is calculated automatically by the Electronic Total Station (ETS). The CROSS is placed at the other end of the stack, throughout the length and breadth. The centre point of the CROSS is located through the Microscope, and the point is locked. The same process goes through the length and breadth of the stack.
The whole stack is divided into no. of sections, depending on the length & breadth of the stack. From the datum level, the CROSS is placed at a height of the stack of each of the section, centre point is located through the Microscope and locked. Similarly, heights are taken at various points throughout the periphery of each of the sections.
Multiple points are located on each of the sections. Each of the points thus located are plotted in the software. Based on the plot, the total volume of the stack is calculated.
Bulk Density of the Stack is calculated by BD box method. The total volume of the stack, multiplied by the Bulk Density provides the total quantity of the stack. The difference between the manual method and ETS method is that manual method calculate the Area & Height separately. ETS method, by process of plotting in the software, it directly gives the Volume of the stack.
